Here is a saga of Amie and Estelle.
They met back in 1999 when Amie was running the SFDivas and Estelle was organizing the SFGrrlz. First impressions were not good! Estelle thought Amie was cranky and Amie thought Estelle was (as Snoop would say) a beotch! They didn't much care for each other, but they had respect for one another.
As time went on, the two social groups became redundant and Estelle's
Web skills improved. Believing that there was no chance that they would ever date and noticing that the membership of both social groups overlapped, they decided to merge the two lists. Working together now, their contact became more frequent. At first, Amie
avoided Estelle's calls, which were always about the newly merged list, keeping minor contact with her. But, as time passed, Amie not only took Estelle's calls, but they actually started to become friends.
Then one day, Amie noticed that Estelle was not only less annoying than she had once believed, but that she thought Estelle was pretty cute too. She tried to suppress those feelings. Ugh! What was that about! But, the feelings didn't pass as hard as she tried to put them out of her mind.
After 3 months of cluelessness, Estelle finally took notice. Their first date was on a beautiful fall weekend. We say "weekend" because the dinner date lasted 72 hours. Amie took Estelle out to John Frank's for dinner on Friday. The date continued at the Bridge School Benefit concert.
During the concert they visited a jewelry booth. The clerk asked them if they were looking for commitment rings, as it was so obvious they belonged together. They explained to the disbelieving saleswoman that this was only their first date. Four months later they had another date but both thought it was just for fun and wouldn't lead anywhere. After having this second date, Estelle began to freak out. Amie suggested that they could go back to being friends and have no more dates in the future. Estelle came to her senses and realized that she couldn't live without Amie (can you blame her?). They've been inseparable ever since.
It was obvious to the jewelry clerk, just as it is obvious to most people who see Amie and Estelle together: they are meant for each other.
On September 21st 2003, Estelle and Amie will celebrate thier
wedding. They will show to the world what they have demonstrated to each other for the past year and a half: that they love each other, cherish each other, support each other.
Some people say you just "know" when it is the right person. Well, when I heard people say it I didn't believe it. Now, I can honestly say that I "know" that this woman in the person for me. No questions, no concerns. We compliment one another and support one another in ways I have never experienced in my life.
It will be wonderful to see all of you at our celebration!
